Develop Project Management Plan in ClickUp

Develop Project Management Plan is the process of defining, preparing, and coordinating all plan components and consolidating them into an integrated project management plan. Project management plan is the only output of the Develop Project Management Plan process. The plan is the most important document in the entire project because it guides everything that happens on the project.

Inputs into the project management plan include project charter, outputs from other processes, enterprise environmental factors, and organizational process assets. The project charter serves as the basis for initial project planning.

Among the enterprise environmental factors that greatly influence the Develop Project Management Plan are project management body of knowledge for your particular vertical market (e.g., consulting) and/or respective focus area (e.g., strategy development, commercial due diligence or operations).

The organizational process assets that are usually tapped for the Develop Project Management Plan process include project management plan template, project information from previous similar projects, and historical information and lessons learned repository. Many organizations have standardized checklists available based in their own experience or use checklists from the industry.

The project management plan should be baselined in terms of scope, time, and cost. Once it is baselined, it may only be changed through the Perform Integrated Change Control process.

Create Develop Project Management Plan Tasks

The Develop Project Management Plan process is performed once or at predefined points in the project. It’s really important to think about what could change on your project, so that you can have plans for what to do when things don’t go as expected. Expert judgment is often required to determine which project documents will be subject to the formal change control process. You always begin dealing with change by consulting the Project Management plan.

A separate Project Management folder can be used for managing project management activities (as opposed to project work activities). In Project Management folder create Develop project management plan task.

Provide instructions on how to execute Develop project management plan task in task description.

Going forward, subtasks and checklists under this tasks can be used to manage various Develop Project Management Plan activities.

Create Project Management Plan Doc

The Project Management plan is a single document, but it’s broken into a bunch of pieces called subsidiary plans. The needs of the project determine which components of the project management plan are needed.

Usually, there’s one subsidiary plan for each of the other knowledge areas in addition to other documents that are not part of the project management plan; however, they are necessary to manage the project effectively.

To help keep your plan flexible, you should add an Open Issues section to the plan. You can write down any open issues or concerns in this section, and deal with them as they come down the line.

Create Project Management Plan doc. Provide the doc structure and content manually, paste the content from an MS Word document (ClickUp will do its best to transform the content into the ClickUp format) or create the doc from a company template (organizational process assets). Within the doc, you can provide links to subsidiary plans and project documents.

ClickUp’s collaboration features ensure everyone in your workspace is able to comment, edit, and work on docs at the same time, without any overlap. When someone else is editing, you see their live cursor typing. You’re also able to edit at the same time, just like Google Docs. You can add a contributor to a doc or designate a team member as the author.

In addition, comments are one of ClickUp’s most powerful tools for collaboration. Assign a comment if it requires effort from anyone on your team. This creates a new required item for the assignee to complete before the task can be closed.
